Cambodian Golden silk
Cambodia’s years of civil war destroyed most of mulberry groves of Cambodia, leaving the silk worms without a habitat. Organizers of the Silk Forum are trying to encourage people in rural areas to set aside a small area of land for mulberries.
The Silk Forum says even that small steps could make a big difference to the local economy.
With one or two hectares of mulberry plants, there can be enough production to improve the lifestyle of the farmers and weavers workng together for the development of the community. The conditions here lead to the production of a unique "golden silk" - partly thanks to the spit of the worms.
